Statement From The Artist
In this last year I've had the chance to work with an incredible fellow creative, Rob Bowen. Recently, a project of his I had the opportunity to collaborate on titled 'Sleep Tight' released on YouTube. In this horror short film there is an effect I created for one of the main characters where she has been scalped in an accident. With a bald cap, a wig, some deconstruction, and reconstruction of the two items we were able to achieve the look practically. Throw in a little bit of liquid latex and stage blood and a character is born, ready to scare the masses. Being able to do these kind of practical effects is something I am quite proud of and worked diligently to learn and improve on. With inspirations like Tom Savini, Howard Berger, Dick Smith, and many many more I've fallen more in love with the art of makeup every day. It is an escape to any fantasy world you can imagine, watching a look come together to create a character or creature is where the magic starts. Making movie magic happen through makeup is my dream and with all of the other dreams happening around me I know it will be my reality.
Gabby Placensia
She/Her. Gabrielle Placensia is a Mexican-American artist and character designer who specializes in special effects makeup in the Colorado Springs area. She found her passion for makeup through high school theatre and soon after graduating attended The Art of Makeup in Oregon to further her knowledge and hone her skills in wound work, prosthetics, and ready-for-camera looks and products. Later earning her esthetician license through the School of Botanical and Medical Aesthetics she was ready to show her craft to the world. Nearly ten years after starting this journey she found a community in the local film industry and has since worked on many amazing projects with even better people.
